East Norwich, New York is a small town in Nassau County located east of Oyster Bay. It is known for its lovely homes, quiet streets, and peaceful atmosphere.
History
East Norwich was founded in the year 1793, and at first, it was known as Colonial Springs. For many years, the region was populated by free African Americans.
However, in the 1870s, a divide began to emerge between new developments owned by white people and older settlements owned mainly by black residents. This caused a racial divide in the area that persisted for some time.
Later on, East Norwich continued to be developed into a residential community catering to an affluent population from New York City who were seeking a suburban lifestyle outside of the city.
Population
According to the 2020 United States Census Bureau estimate, there are 2,913 people living in East Norwich as of 2020. Of those, 88% identify as White with some Hispanic or Latino representation as well (7%).
The median age is 43 years old and 59% are homeowners while 32% rent their homes. 53% of households contain married couples while 38% contain families headed by single parents.
Education
The majority of children residing in East Norwich attend Oyster Bay-East Norwich Schools (OBEN), which is part of the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District. OBEN provides its students with public education that follows rigorous New York state standards for curricula as well as services such as special education programs and advanced course offerings.
The district also offers extracurricular activities ranging from athletics to theater productions which provide engaging learning experiences outside of the classroom setting .
Health
The health care access situation in East Norwich has improved considerably over time due to its proximity to major hospitals like Glen Cove Hospital and NYU Winthrop University Hospital on Long Island where patients can receive medical services for orthopedic surgery or routine checkups among other specialty services if needed.
Because these healthcare providers serve multiple towns on Long Island, many residents use them rather than local providers due to lower costs associated with out-of-network copays versus what they would otherwise pay at local facilities. Families can also make use of affordable home health care options through nearby agencies when needed as well.
Transportation
Easthampton is serviced by two regularly running coach buses into Manhattan making it convenient for residents needing access to get there quickly either during peak commuting hours or other times along weekdays when trips may not be scheduled during rush hour periods.
That said, most residents rely heavily on having their own car or other form of private transportation since public transit does not adequately cover all parts of this town but many roads are connected through great road networks that make getting around relatively easy even without cars.
