Hicksville, New York is a small town located in the beautiful Long Island region of the state. Known for its low population density and close-knit community, Hicksville has plenty to offer.
History
Originally named after Henry “Hicks” Smith, a major figure in the revolutionary era, Hicksville was founded in 1834 as a humble farming village. Since then it has grown into the bustling small town it is known to be today, with many tourist attractions and businesses.
Population
Hicksville has an estimated population of 42,468 people according to 2020 data. Although its size pales to towns like nearby Jericho or Plainview, much of Hicksville’s charm comes from its quietness – and being able to know all your neighbors by name.
Education
The town is served by three elementary schools – Summit Lane Elementary School, Dutch Lane Elementary School and Forest Avenue Elementary School – as well as one high school – Hicksville High School (which also serves other neighboring towns).
Further education opportunities are available at Nassau Community College and Hofstra University- both of which lie within the boundaries of Nassau County.
Health
Residents have access to multiple hospitals within a half hour drive – Northwell Syosset Hospital and NuHealth Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center among them – allowing for easy access to medical care when needed.
Transport
Since there are no airports situated directly within Hicksville proper, travel must be taken via car or bus service connecting with regional airports such as John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) or LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
Within the city itself there are bus services provided by Nassau Inter-County Express providing transport links around the area and further afield should you wish.
Points of Interest
Although small, one of Hickesville’s main attractions is Cedar Creek Park-an expansive park encompassing over 500 acres of lakeside scenery complete with several walking trails for visitors to explore.
Also notable is Cold Spring Country Club – home golf course for top professional players during tournaments – which lies on what used to be called “Cold Spring Mills” due to its location near a stream that once fed local farms. For those who enjoy shopping, nearby Broadway Mall offers plenty of retail outlets for everything from clothing and shoes.
