Once belonging to the Native American Matinecock tribe, this quaint Long Island patch of farmland quickly became home to wealthy industrialists in the 1920s.
The eastern part of Oyster Bay, now named Syosset, was originally bought by Robert Williams in 1648. The name has now been linked to a poor pronunciation of the Dutch name Schouts Bay.
